The
BBC was recently named the UK's strongest business brand by
the 'Superbrands' council. Through extensive use of audience
research, BBC Wales builds on the power of the BBC brand to
cut through to millions of television viewers, radio listeners
and online users in Wales each week.
BBC Wales produces thousands of hours of television and
radio each year and, in bbc.co.uk/wales and bbc.co.uk/cymru,
provides the nation’s most popular websites. English programmes
are broadcast across BBC Radio Wales and three television networks
- BBC One Wales, BBC Two Wales, and BBC 2W and, with nearly
8,000 hours of radio and television in Welsh each year on BBC
Radio Cymru and S4C - including Pobol y Cwm, the longest-running
BBC TV soap opera anywhere in the world - BBC Wales provides
more broadcasting in a single minority language than any other
broadcaster in the world.
Detailed audience research enables BBC Wales to maximise its
marketing potential, turning programmes such as Wales Today,
Week In Week Out and top-rated rugby show Scrum V into household
names in Wales. The brand needs to encompass a wealth of programming
made in Wales for the people of Wales; ranging from the Welsh
language chat show Johnathan and the animated children's favourite
Bobinogs to the situation comedy High Hopes and the Valleys
drama Belonging.
BBC Wales is also responsible for some of the most talked-about
programmes on network television. Ratings toppers Doctor
Who and Torchwood, the award-winning
documentary series Tribe, BBC Cardiff Singer of the World and
a host of other programmes enjoyed throughout the UK are made
by BBC Wales.
And it is not just broadcasting: BBC Wales is the BBC's
Centre of Excellence for music production and home
to the National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Wales
educational resources are used by teachers in every corner of
Wales and BBC Wales websites attract a million
unique users each week.
